Auburn Hills is served by the McKinney Independent School District (MISD), which currently has 18 elementary schools, six junior high schools, two traditional high schools and an alternative education program. Middle school students who qualify for entrance into these programs enroll in them by choice; they have been specifically designed to challenge gifted students from all backgrounds and provide instruction above and beyond what the district offers in a general education setting.

If schools are important to you and your family, then Auburn Hills is close enough to a school district with good ratings; but if you need a more urban area with big city living options, this may not work out for you.

Elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade can attend John A. Baker Elementary School. For middle and high school, Auburn Hills students can attend Cockrill Middle School and McKinney North High School.

The closest grocery store is called Albertsons and is about two miles away in the neighboring Paden Heights community. Also available for purchase are magazines, lottery tickets, greeting cards and birthday cakes which can be delivered to any home in McKinney.

Auburn Hills is home to several well maintained parks, which are a great way to enjoy the outdoors. The most notable park in Auburn Hills is the Kuykendahl Park, which boasts a newly remodeled and expanded soccer field. There's also a walking trail that goes alongside a little creek. If you're looking for restaurants in Auburn Hills, McKinney, there are only two. The first is China City Bistro and the second is Texas Roadhouse which are both on Kuykendahl Road.

There are a number of excellent neighborhoods surrounding the Auburn Hills community as well including Paden Heights, Argyle Terrace, Beacon Hill, and Independence Acres. Paden Heights is situated in Collin County with a population of approximately 2,152. The neighborhood features include parks, spacious one-story floor plans and traditional ranch style homes. A family-oriented environment, the neighborhood is located close to schools and The Parks at McKinney Bayou.

Argyle Terrace is another small neighborhood with a population of approximately 2,158. It's part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and is located about 20 miles south of Downtown Dallas. Annexed into McKinney in 1984, Argyle Terrace has been rapidly developed since 2002 with many new subdivisions bearing street names such as "Legacy Hills" "Argyle Village" and "Villages of Argyle".

Beacon Hill is also a part of Collin County, Texas, and is home to about 2,212 people from young families to retirees and everyone in between! Beacon Hill has much larger lots and homes here than any other area nearby. Its homes are generally more upscale with an average square footage of 3,000 to 5,000 square feet.

Independence Acres has a population of approximately 2,279. This charming area is considered an upscale neighborhood with large houses that offers plenty of green space for residents to enjoy nature.
